Specialised Gambling Counsellor

In 2005 I acknowledged and sought help for my gambling addiction and had feelings and problems that you may be currently experiencing. It was only when I found a specialised gambling Counsellor after sitting through many sessions with other Counsellor's, that I finally started my road to recovery and I am now free of my problem gambling addiction.

I completed my academic qualification as a Counsellor with the Institute of Counselling in Clinical and Pastoral Counselling and specialised in problem gambling. Undertaking specific training I received certification from GamCare ( the leading UK national provider of information, advice, support and counselling for the prevention and treatment of problem gambling.

My motivation each day as a gambling Counsellor is to walk with you on your journey to be free of problem gambling with support and help.

Working Together

The aim of problem gambling counselling is to provide an opportunity for you to work toward increasing your well-being by becoming free of problem gambling.

When a client comes to me with a gambling problem the first and most important step is to help them cut down or stop gambling altogether, depending on their individual goals and needs. To this end, I examine practical ways of dealing with “triggers” to gambling, develop strategies for avoiding temptation, and look at options for managing your motivation so as to minimise opportunities to gamble.

As a Counsellor I adopt a “two-tier” approach by working with you to explore the origins of the problem and the underlying reasons why you gamble. Gambling insight and understanding helps you come to terms with the problem and overcome it.

The most obvious goal is working towards a reduction or complete abstinence of gambling. As you gain insight you learn to deal with your urges and triggers, which result in making better choices and changes to your previous pattern of behavior.
